Seventh Grade ELA Teacher at Perkins Country Schools
“I have been a middle school Language Arts teacher for the past two years, and recently, I have been given the opportunity to move up to the high school grade level. My teaching style is modeled after the amazing teachers I had when I was in school and in college. I try to emphasize to all my students that everyone deserves access to a rigorous, meaningful, and culturally responsive environment. Over the years, I have focused my efforts on making a classroom that is student-centered, where every student knows that their voice is valued and heard. I have seen firsthand how good literacy skills open opportunities for students and communities, which is a big reason why I was so excited to be involved with NELAC. I learned about the network through one of my college professors and mentors, Jillian Harpster, and I was immediately drawn to the NELAC's mission of educational equality. I am eager to continue to learn from and grow with other educators and those in the NELAC community who are also passionate about literacy advocacy”
Post-Secondary Teacher at Mid-Plains Community College
“I've taught all over western Nebraska the past 25 years and love what I do. After 23 years in secondary ELA, I teach at Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte, but I still get the opportunity to teach dual-credit classes and stay close with the high school environment. I'm excited for this relaunch of NELAC and how it can help all of us grow and learn from each other.”
Seventh Grade ELA Teacher at Moore Middle School
“Previously teaching 6th grade ELA at Andersen Middle School, I am looking forward to a new adventure teaching 7th grade at Moore Middle School this fall. Writing is my biggest passion and I am a proud member of the Nebraska Writing Project (check it out here! https://newp.unl.edu/). In my spare time, I can be found working on crafts or snuggling with my two cats! I am excited to continue learning how to be the best educator possible. I can't wait to see where NELAC takes me!”
